The Eighth Day of Christmas: Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale

I am a huge fan of Sierra Nevada. Their beers are consistently good to great, with one notable exception, giving them a Hall of Fame batting average. The Celebration Ale is one of their better beers.  There is nothing especially Christmassy about this beer as there are no spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or cardamon; it is not particularly heavy; nor is the 6.5 % ABV is all that high. In fact, the only signifiers that this is a Christmas beer is the end of the year release date, and the poinsettias, pine trees and snowbound cabin on the label.  I am not complaining as this malty and hoppy IPA is one of my favorite harbingers of the Holiday Season, along with Advent Calendars, the Alastair Sim version of A Christmas Carol, and Christmas cookies, loads and loads of Christmas cookies.  My only gripe with this beer is the limited availability as I would drink this all year long. It is that good, 8.5/10.

I agree with everything in this post, TS. From the beer to the greatest Scrooge (youtubed in it’s entirety …http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGUHi52R-zM)

I have that movie on DVD and watched it with my Dad the other day. It is so great. I also like the George C. Scott and Patrick Stewart versions, but they both fall well short of Alistair Sim’s portrayal.

I did not know you were a fan of Advent Calendars. I do not really have a sweet tooth, but I do like chocolate, the crappier the better.

I havent turned one since I was a kid, but I always did enjoy an Advent Calendar. I was thinking next year my kid would be a good age to get one up on the fridge.

Get two of them. You do not want one of Jonah’s Christmas memories to be of Daddy eating all of Jesus’ candy. You passed out under the Christmas Tree can be chalked up to “Daddy has the ‘flu'” but literally stealing candy from a baby will not be forgiven.

Loving the whole 12 Days thing. Tonight on BotF, we celebrate Back of the Ferry Kris Kringle. All members buy eachother a 6 pack and we exchange them and drink them.

Does it seem strange to you that in the Northern Hemisphere Christmas beers are synonymous with Winter Beers? I will admit that Christmas in the Summer is a freaky notion to me, probably ruling out my theoretical move to New Zealand or Australia. Antartica is still a possibility, because it is always winter there, and there are no nosy neighbors.
